This is a past event.
I am a unique, acoustic singer/songwriter and all round musician based in Hastings, currently in the process of releasing my original music to the general public. At 17, i have performed at various events, parties, and weddings, regularly go busking, and have taken part in open mic nights in the local area, but am now looking to play to a larger audience and gain experience in the music industry. My interest in music began from an early age as i was always surrounded by my dad playing guitar, but i purchased my first drum kit at the age of 11, and taught myself the guitar and piano shortly after, which set me up for gigs at small venues. Despite aiming to make a living out of music in the future, for the time being i am just enjoying sharing my music with people, and hope to continue doing so for a very long time.
A recovering former monarch of Bavaria, Mad King Ludwig is a musician, writer, performer and madman supreme. Currently residing in Southampton, UK, he has played around the UK with The Mojo Co., selling out venues across the South and playing at Isle of Wight, Victorious, Common People, How The Light Gets In and Rhythmtree festivals. He has worked with Grammy-winning producer Liam Watson (The White Stripes, Madness, The Kills, Tame Impala, James Hunter), and has been featured on Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Music show.
Possessing the voice of a fired-up Tom Waits-esque Southern preacher and the physical frame of a Culture Club reject, Ludwig is a striking sight and sound to behold when performing. He has shared the stage with the likes of The Urban Voodoo Machine and Tankus the Henge, and has amassed many a mad story to tell on his musical travels.
His début album, Do What Makes You Happy, is due for release on 13th January 2019, and showcases Ludwig’s broad, eclectic and mad songwriting ability, as well as his octopus-esque musical talent – he sings, plays guitar, piano, double bass, saxophone and kitchen percussion on the record. The album is being taken on a tour of the UK in January/February 2019, with Mad King Ludwig bringing his mad new band in tow. Stef Croot (Mad King Ludwig and the Mojo Co., Yeeha Granma) is on guitar, harmonica and other curiosities, Sian Unwin (The Circadians) on double and electric low notes, and Paul Gunter (Stomp! The Musical) on strange percussion. Expect the unexpected.
I taught myself basic chords on the piano when I was 16 and have been writing songs since then. I’ve sung throughout my life but since leaving school it’s become something that grounds me. The first song I both sang and played on the piano was Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’. Now, at 19, I have written a few originals based on certain points in my life. My musical inspirations and influences include, among others, Tom Odell, Lewis Capaldi, Bon Iver, Radiohead, Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys, Beatles, Alt J and Queens of the Stone Age. Settling on something completely original, my songs are written about love and, of course, heartbreak. Unique, I know. Although I have a lot of experience of performing, I have relatively little of playing piano and singing at the same time. Feel free to throw things at me if you don’t like it. I get it.
