Described by a BBC radio station (safe to say it wasn't followed by a number from 1 to 6) as 'new and exciting,' we have recently been gigging at the Forum and the Grey Lady as well as recording our EP at Unstudios.
We are a two-piece young band with an emphasis on song writing and the complexities and intricacies of melodic variation. We like nice tunes. Our influences range from Laura marling and fleet foxes to the arctic monkeys, somewhere on the rock side of folk and the alternative side of pop. A giggle pics reviewer recently described us 'local kids playing indie tunes,' and pleased as we are to make an appearance on the esteemed website, we don't really think of ourselves as indie, but unique and individual.
Fran is a young singer/songwriter from Kent who has been gigging locally for about a year, and intends to continue to do so, as playing live music is what she enjoys most. Her sound is acoustic, with only her voice and the piano. Fran has a wide-ranging taste in music, from acoustic and folk artists such as Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Tom Odell, to electronic and dance artists such as Disclosure. Fran’s varying influences combined with her own ideas produce a sound that is original and heartfelt.
Emotive songstress, Jennifer Lee Ridley passionately uses influences of a Romantic folk nature to create poignant and touching music. She has studied in depth the poetic nature of song and has a strong affinity with writers such as William Shakespeare, John Keats and William Blake. More recently she has combined these influences with her own song-writing to create more modern fusions whilst carefully retaining the purity of the lyrical content. Her dark warm vocals combined with her individual folk sound mirrors the poetic lyrics which explore the many facets of emotions.
This has had a profound effect on her own songs which she continues to develop and enhance through working with other composers, musicians and writers locally and in London. She feels strongly that collaborating is an important part of growing and building an understanding of the nature and the impact of poetry and prose on music.
She is currently working on and arranging an album which she is hopes to bring out in 2014.
