Goldie Reed has been performing with her 4-piece band since late 2010, regularly appearing around London and the South East. Influenced by musicians such as Alison Krauss, Robert Plant, T-Bone Burnett, Eva Cassidy and Tom Waits, Goldie’s rootsy music has gained a wonderful response from satisfied audiences- “People keep asking when we will have something to release which is so lovely to hear, and we are grateful that everyone has been patient while we make something we are proud of. We are releasing our debut single ‘Bittersweet’ on March 25th at the Grey Lady, Tunbridge Wells, and hope everyone loves it as much as us!” says Goldie. Support comes from the Ty Watling Band, and David Migden & the Dirty Words- two brilliant bands that make the perfect addition to Goldie’s performance. Physical copies are available tonight and hold the added bonus of Goldie’s acoustic track ‘Butterflies’. With the first 25 physical singles purchased, you will receive a complimentary cupcake. Goldie and the boys are currently working hard on their debut album that is due for release this summer. “The album is sounding great, but it has meant that we are taking a break from performing- and we love performing so we have been looking forward to tonight for a long time now!” ‘Bittersweet’ will also be available to download from iTunes, and other online retailers on the same day.
Singer-songwriter, Paul Dunton leads his own unique cross-over orchestra providing an atmospheric fusion of alternative and pop with a classical twist. Paul & his Orchestra take influences from varying modern day artists such as Pink Floyd, Elbow, ELO, Turin Brakes, Massive Attack, Damien Rice and contemporary composers such as Samuel Barber, Ludovico Einaudi, John Barry and Hans Zimmerman. The Orchestra performs Paul's own compositions and a varied selection of uniquely arranged standards from a wide range of artists. The line-up of 8 violins, 4 cellos, guitar, flute, bass and percussion accompanies Paul on vocals and piano, joined by his lead vocalists, Charlotte Andrew and Poppy Raine. Paul and his Orchestra regularly perform at concerts, festivals and private events throughout the UK and internationally, including headlining the Theatrium Wilhelmstraße Festival in Wiesbaden, Germany and an 8 state tour of the USA which culminated in a spectacular roof-top performance on top of the New York Strand Hotel. Increased attention and success led to the orchestra being featured on BBC Radio 2 by Joan Armatrading with interviews and airplay of one of Paul's songs, 'Don't Forget'. This led to Paul supporting Joan Armatrading on five occasions during her recent UK tours.
Men from Uncle are Andy Butler and Mark Paul Perry, who came together as friends having both spent fifteen-odd years gigging the London and UK circuits through the late 80s and into the end of the 90s, Andy with indie pop band Positive Energy of Madness and Mark with British Rock act State of Mind.
Crossing paths having headlined and played the likes of the Marquee, Astoria and many other reputable venues with their respective bands, and through their shared love of music and a friendship born out of their joint wish to live life to the full, the friends started jamming together, finding a mutual respect for musical tastes and enjoying the experience so much that they decided to pick up the live mantle after seeing their creative talents lie dormant for more than 10 years.
Having slipped into a songwriting partnership with absolute ease, the two friends put down more than six tracks and laid down respective demos for the track in a blistering six-week period, several of those songs being played for the first time at this live showing at the Grey Lady.
Influences are almost too broad and wide to mention, both having listened to and soaked up all types and styles of music in their lives, but no doubt what will come through are some heavy rock styles mixed with a pop sensibilty, as Men from Uncle say they are always striving to find that illusive golden tune that can only come from a place described as unknown.
Starting out at age 9 Steve’s early attraction to guitar was not based on the usual influence of guitar players but as a result of being told he must not touch his sister’s guitar! Another fact that would shape his future musical journey was that his first instinct was to turn the guitar upside down and use it as a drum!
After cutting his musical teeth working in bands in London and South East England he became a professional “gun for hire” and worked internationally for many artists, producers and record companies.
Steve’s latest project is a solo guitar adventure that he calls “guitabla” style which incorporates a mixture of Rock, Funk, Blues, Folk, Jazz and World styles and utilises a cocktail of percussive drum beats, bass lines and interweaving chord and melodic sequences. He likes to approach some of his compositions as if a whole band were playing via one instrument. Some of his influences include Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, Michael Hedges and Jeff Beck.
He is currently focused on developing and recording tunes for his first solo CD and playing his set live. You can keep up to date with developments and future gigs on his website.
